The Samsung Galaxy S II was arguably the best smartphone of 2011, with its super sized display, beefed up specs, and various model builds including the Galaxy Nexus for Verizon Wireless. While the S II was announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2011 only to launch a few months later, Samsung decided to hold off on announcing the follow-up Galaxy S III until closer to the device’s launch.

A report from ZDNet Korea indicates that the wait may soon be over. According to the report, Samsung will be showing off the Galaxy S III sometime this month, with the device set to go on sale in April. If previous rumors hold up, we should see the S III launched simultaneously in 50 major networks, perhaps including the United States. As you might recall, the Galaxy S II launched in the U.S. several months after it launched around the world, so hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on the S III at the same time as our neighbors across the pond this time around.

The rumored Galaxy S III specs include:

4.8″ Super AMOLED HD Plus display – perhaps up to 1080p

Quad-Core Exynos 4412 processor with ARM Mali-400 GPU

8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera

4G LTE support

Ceramic casing

Android 4.0

Obviously, this device is at the top of our must-have list, and will likely become the best smartphone of 2012. We’ll bring you more details as they’re announced by Samsung. Stay tuned with Mark9 for Latest Updates!

You can unlock several HTC device like HTC Sensation, Evo Design 4g, Evo 4g, Evo 3d, Evo Shift, G2, MT3Gs, MT4G, MT4Gs, Inspire, Sensation, Incredible, Wildfire S and Amaze with the help of this tool. This tool is created by FRIGID of XDA Developers Forum. You are thinking that is it works on devices who are not in the list, then I will tell you yes it works on all HTC devices because they have similar architecture.

HTC-Super-Tool-v3_thumb

There is no doubt that most users are shied away from messing with the guts of their devices. Not only does this usually void your warranty, but there is also a danger of bricking your device (if things aren’t done correctly). One-click methods are the way to go for all “non-techy” users out there, or those who prefer simpler methods. The guys at XDA Developers know this, where an awesome tool has recently been released for HTC users.

The HTC Super Tool works much like other recent options out there (like Revolutionary.io). It is a Windows program that does all the work for you when rooting and unlocking a bootloader.

This third-party tool has surpassed even HTC’s bootloader unlocking tool, which is limited to a few devices. Devices for which this tool has been reported working for include the Evo Design 4G, Evo 4G, Evo 3D, Evo Shift, G2, MT3Gs, MT4G, MT4Gs, Inspire, Sensation, Incredible, Wildfire S, and the Amaze 4G.

As you can see, the list is not bad at all. This pretty much covers the whole EVO family, most of the myTouch family, and many of the popular HTC devices out there. If your smartphone is not on the list, there is still a chance that it might work, but hasn’t been tested yet. If you are feeling extra adventurous, you could give it a try and let the developer know how it goes.

Please remember that tampering with your device’s software is not supported by HTC or your carrier. If you choose to do so, no one takes any responsibility, but you. Your warranty may be void after using HTC Super Tool, and there might be a chance of your device’s functionality being affected.

Now the disclaimer is out of the way. If you have been considering rooting your HTC device, but do not like those complicated guides, this might be your best bet. Go ahead and try it if you are up to it, and let us know how things went. You can download it straight from XDA Developer’s site.

Requirements:

Make sure your battery is charged atleast 60%

Backup all your data

Download HTC DRIVER

Download Super tool v3

Procedure:

1. Turn on USB Debugging.

How*-Go to your homescreen tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked.

2. Extract the above super tool file on your desktop.

3. connect your phone to the computer using your USB Data Cable.

4. Now go to the extracted files and doucle click SUPER TOOL to run the program.

5. you will see a menu, choose any procedure you want like rooting, unlock bootloader, attempt S-Off etc.

That’s it you have Root, unlock bootloader and S-Off your HTC device.

To all HTC users – do you think this is the best or easiest way to root your HTC device? If not, what option do you think is best?

Everyone of You Ask the same question , ‘What Kind of Digital Cam should I buy?’ became more challenging with the pretty latest appearance of a new breed of cameras ensuring to complete a gap in the market. Formerly it was a uncomplicated decision in the past – you purchased a DSLR if you were most worried about graphic quality, business speed and managing what the digicam did, or you purchased one of the various sub-types of small-sensored stream-lined digicam if you prioritized pocketability, ease-of-use, price or zoom contact range. There were some efforts to link the gap – superzoom compacts and high-end fanatic designs often provided comprehensive guide handles – but there was no actual center floor.

Until pretty lately the only actual options have either been stream-lined cameras which have very little graphic alerts, or the significantly bigger – in both indicator and body measurements – DSLR design.

That center floor has lastly been packed, with the appearance of Mirrorless Similar Lens Cameras. These cameras take the large indicator and interchangeable contacts that help DSLRs generate such good pictures, and incorporate them with the technological innovation that underpin stream-lined cameras – offering a firing experience that will be instantly well known to stream-lined digicam customers.

Mirrorless cameras have maintained to fall into approximately two primary designs. There are designs that appear to be the vintage Rangefinder design (like the Olympus PEN, left), and those which appear to be scaled-down DSLRs, like the Panasonic G1 on the right.

Mirrorless cameras (also known as Compact Program Cameras, amongst other names) first showed up with the release of the Small Four Thirds method from Panasonic and Olympus in 2008. The first technology cameras from these producers (shown above) indicate two unique body designs that are still typical today; a rangefinder-inspired cosmetic and the small DSLR look-alike. Of the two, rangefinder-style systems have a lesser form element by omitting a built-in automated viewfinder, instead with regards to the back display for graphic structure, much like current stream-lined cameras.

Since the Small Four Thirds release, Samsung’s NX, Sony’s NEX, Pentax’s Q and Nikon’s 1 systems have also been presented, with Fujifilm verifying that it too will become a member of the party in early 2012.

What’s to gain?

For all of their external variations, it’s important to comprehend how much Mirrorless cameras have in typical with DSLRs. In most situations, their alerts are the same or similar in dimension to most well-known DSLRs. By evaluation, most stream-lined cameras have alerts that are one 12th of that dimension – and this is a big cope, since indicator dimension is probably the biggest determinant of graphic excellent (decidedly more appropriate than the number of megapixels). Consequently, the graphic excellent of the Mirrorless designs we’ve examined has either been similar or very just like that of modern DSLRs.

In inclusion to low-light graphic excellent, enormous alerts usually outcome in techniques with increased management over depth-of-field, significance that you can think about using enormous aperture contacts to get photographs with smooth, defocused practical knowledge.

Putting aside for a second the oddity that is the compact-sensored Pentax Q, the only actual exclusion to this report is Nikon’s 1 program (surprisingly) goes against this pattern and uses a indicator two-thirds lesser than most DSLRs or Mirrorless cameras. This is still four times the dimension the alerts in well-known stream-lined cameras, but does mean the low gentle graphic excellent and management over depth-of-field isn’t on the same stage as most of its colleagues.

Overall, the outcome is a considerably lesser digicam that includes DSLR graphic excellent with a more compact-camera-like buyer, providing ‘point and shoot’ customers a enormous update in graphic excellent without the need to modify their firing conduct. Removing the reflection and to prevent viewfinder discovered in the DSLR allows a significant decrease in volume as can be seen by evaluating the dimension a Panasonic DSLR with one of its Mirrorless NEX cameras.Putting most contacts on the top side stops them being truly portable but they can still be less intrusive.

The enormous alerts used in Mirrorless cameras mean that their techniques and contacts don’t really rely as portable, but they are considerably lesser than even the most stream-lined DSLR. This is an benefits not just in that there’s less weight and volume to lug around but also in that using one can be considerably less intrusive. There are a lot of circumstances in which taking out a enormous ‘professional-looking’ DSLR will effect the way your would-be topics answer.

The lesser techniques also, in concept at least, allow for lesser contacts – though this mainly tends to be actual for wide-angle and typical zooms, with telephoto contacts being primarily the same dimension as those used on DSLRs. The little body styles have also encouraged most of the producers to make at least one little ‘pancake’ excellent contact for their program. These are set major duration contacts and, with the right collaboration of price, aperture and major duration, can be a great inclusion if you’re looking to really interact with with images.

The benefits of Live view

Traditionally the split between stream-lined electronic cameras and DSLRs has been that electronic stream-lined provide a quick, stay review of the world you’re firing on the back present – often known as ‘live view’. By comparison, the film-era history of the SLR style has made including a quick review on the electronic cameras back display has demonstrated difficult. Several DSLR stay perspective remedies are available but most of them have considerable disadvantages with regards to either rate or mobility.

Mirrorless electronic cameras have all been developed particularly to use the main image indicator to provide auto-focus information and the review of what the digicam is about to picture, just as is the situation with stream-lined electronic cameras, rather than having this option included on later. Furthermore, the contacts for Mirrorless techniques have been developed for the different needs that this concentrate obtain method needs, making them much better to concentrate than when most DSLRs try to concentrate in stay perspective method.

This provides not just knowledge, but also another potential advantage: this implies you don’t need to increase the digicam to eye-level to take a picture. It indicates they can be used more discretely and do not require the digicam to be included between the professional electronic camera and the patient matter to nearly the same stage. This function, in addition to their lesser size, outcomes in a digicam a lesser amount of frightening than a DSLR.

If you’re getting up from a stream-lined digicam, the excellent stay perspective practical knowledge provided by a mirrorless program digicam will create the move seem a lot less complicated.

A side-benefit of their mirrorless style is its capability to determine visibility and show a amplified review for precise concentrating of old, guide concentrate contacts, such as some that need to be attached very close to the indicator. This has led to a wide range of plugs showing for the various Mirrorless supports, enabling the use of a large wide range of guide concentrate contacts in hidden and outdated supports. It may not be as simple as using a ancient, autofocusing contact but it’s an excellent way for newbie photography lovers to practical knowledge quick, set significant duration contacts without too much financial risk.

The capability to determine visibility and easily increase the automated review create it simple to research with second-hand guide concentrate contacts.

It provides a cheap way to practical knowledge firing with quick, fixed-focal-length contacts (which every newbie professional electronic camera should get a chance to try).

What are the disadvantages?

There are currently two significant negatives we’ve knowledgeable with the Mirrorless electronic cameras we’ve knowledgeable so far. The first is the failure to go with the auto-focus rate of DSLRs when performing ongoing or predictive AF. Single-shot AF tends not to be so much of an issue, with most latest Mirrorless designs able to go with or, in the situation of Nikon, Olympus and Panasonic, go over the single-attempt concentrating rate of most DSLRs.

In common Mirrorless electronic cameras cannot monitor going topics (specifically those going towards or away from you) as well as DSLRs, if at all, and so are far less well suitable for athletics or other measures images. For the normal targeted person of techniques like this the most apparent end result of the slowly low-light concentrate and failure to keep up with activity comes when firing even a little bit effective kids inside in anything but perfect gentle.

The digicam creators we’ve mentioned this with acknowledge that providing ongoing and monitoring AF on Mirrorless is complicated, so we’re not anticipating a significant enhancement in the quick (though Nikon may have found the response with its 1 System). Consequently, if firing fast-moving topics is one of your reasons for buying a new digicam, then you’ll probably be better provided with a DSLR, though you’d still have to consider getting a more expensive contact to get the best outcomes. There is also considerable difference between the different Mirrorless electronic cameras with regards to autofocusing time so it’s value examining the opinions of the individual designs before separating with any cash (the modern ones are often better than the first technology models).

The other disadvantage we’ve knowledgeable is that the Mirrorless electronic cameras we’ve examined so far can battle to concentrate in low gentle to a greater stage than most DSLRs do. And, as caused by the way they concentrate, they don’t always see the same advantage from using an AF illuminator as DSLRs do.

AF illuminators can be stealing attention but they can also give electronic cameras (DSLRs in particular) an benefits when trying to concentrate in low gentle.

Most electronic cameras, by standard, won’t take images unless it is in concentrate (‘focus priority’), so caused by their failure to secure onto a going topic is less likely to be an out of concentrate taken than either no taken at all (if the digicam can’t find anything to concentrate on), or such a long wait that you pass up when entirely. Even in ongoing firing method few mirrorless electronic cameras can keep a going topic in concentrate, significance the outcomes will hit and pass up – with a lot more pass up than hit. It gets more intense as significant programs increase and as gentle levels decrease, and as the amount your topic goes raises.

Waiting for concentrate indicates the image is taken a portion too overdue. Pre-focusing is the only remedy. Most mirrorless electronic cameras fall short to pay attention to a topic is going towards (or away from) you.

Shooting in rush method simply allows you to take more out of concentrate and/or mis-framed injections as the digicam challenges to keep up. With the right configurations, good strategy and a bit of gentle you can take excellent measures injections using a mirrorless digicam.

Another outcome of small digicam systems is that the power supply power have often also been pared-back. This potential decrease, in addition to the need to always use the LCD or automated viewfinder indicates the power supply of Mirrorless electronic cameras isn’t quite in the ‘shoot-all-day’ wide range that many DSLRs provide (that said, entry-level DSLR power supply power have also been getting lesser, so it’s value factoring-in the cost of a extra, whatever program you choose).

The ultimate restriction for Mirrorless techniques at present is a unique not enough ancient contacts. For many purchasers, this is likely to be a moot point – the majority of DSLR purchasers don’t ever take off the contact that comes with their digicam. However, if you are planning to place yourself into images, it’s value looking to see how complete your options are.

As the most ancient Mirrorless program, it’s no shock that the Small Four Thirds contact install has the most complete wide range available: extending from wide-angle zooms through to a selection of telephotos and together with a few enthusiast-friendly excellent contacts. However, this can’t yet tackle the wide varies of DSLRs contacts provided by the digicam creators and third-party producers.

Meanwhile the modern Panasonic E-mount (used by its NEX cameras), currently provides only six contacts, and New samsung has a a little bit larger choice for its NX program. This will certainly change and all the Mirrorless producers are being open about the contacts they have thought out.

Are there any other options?

Mirrorless cameras aren’t the only try to link the gap between compacts and DSLRs. Panasonic has, usually, developed its own remedy. Its SLT variety provides some of the best functions of a DSLR with compact-camera design stay perspective, providing a digicam that’s able of quick ongoing AF, even when firing movie. You drop the dimension benefits of the Mirrorless techniques, however.

Is the technological innovation prepared yet?

Mirrorless cameras have only been that you can buy for around three decades, rather than the 15-or-so decades over which DSLRs have been developed (plus, of course, more than 50 % a century’s value of accomplishment of the hidden SLR mechanism), so it’s easy to understand that there is more apparent space for enhancement.

Mirrorless cameras, despite being able to acquire a lot of know-how from both DSLRs and stream-lined cameras, are still a creating technological innovation. But, even though most of these techniques are only just hitting their second or third technology, we’ve already seen significant changes in concentrate rate and person connects developed to help you to accessibility their complete abilities.

Even in their relatively unprocessed condition, unless you need the fast-subject firing functionality of a DSLR, we think the Mirrorless cameras’ dimension, convenience and (increasingly) cost create them very convincing. Actually, if you’re someone looking to update from a stream-lined digicam, it’s certainly value asking yourself the concern ‘do I really want a DSLR?’

A new study finds that interest in the iPhone 4S is already showing slight signs of slipping. Could it be because prospective buyers are waiting for the iPhone 5?
There’s no doubt that excitement for the iPhone 5 has slipped over the past few months. Ever since the announcement and release of the iPhone 4S, the interest in the iPhone 5 has been put on the back burner for many tech enthusiasts out there who assumed that the iPhone 5 would be shelved for a year or so.

But now that we’ve turned over a new year — the year in which the iPhone 5 is destined to be released — it may be that iPhone users who skipped the 4S, as well as non-iPhone users who are holding out for the iPhone 5, are gearing up for its eventual release. In an interesting poll reported on by CNET, iPhone demand — while still dramatically high — is beginning to decline: “According to ChangeWave Research, which conducted a survey of 4,000 North American consumers last month, 54 percent of those who plan to buy a smartphone in the next 90 days will choose the iPhone. . . However, demand for Apple’s iPhone is on the decline. Back in September, ChangeWave found that 65 percent of consumers were planning to buy an iPhone by the end of 2011–11 points higher than now.”
CNET reports that the decline in interest for the iPhone is mainly a result of its best Android competitor gaining ground on it in the marketplace: “According to ChangeWave, it’s due mainly to the recently launched Galaxy Nexus. That device, which boasts Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and comes with a 4.65-inch display, is Samsung’s flagship device right now, and arguably the best iPhone competitor the company offers.” I simply do not agree with that finding. While it is easy to imagine that new Android devices are detracting from iPhone interest, it is worth noting that the iPhone 4S is still a very new product in the smartphone market, and it’s flagship feature — Siri — remains unmatched as far as cool, fun, sellable features go.
Instead, I believe that iPhone 4S interest in waning, in anticipation for the possibility of an iPhone 5 being released less than a year after the 4S. We reported on sagging iPhone 4 sales back in the late Spring and early Summer of 2011, due to the sense that the iPhone 5 may be released either at the 2011 WWDC or the end of the Summer. The same may be beginning to happen in 2012 as well: while many tech analysts believe that the iPhone 5 will be released in the Fall of 2012, there are still others who believe that this year’s WWDC is a viable forum for its announcement, and would also realign Apple’s typical iPhone release schedule.
In addition, our own inside source, who was correct in predicting that the 2011 iPhone would be a refresh of the iPhone 4S, has been told by his own inside sources that Apple is planning for a “June 2012 release.”
What to take out of this new poll is not that Apple is losing the smartphone wars to the Galaxy Nexus, but rather that smartphone users in the know are keenly aware that, now that we’re in the year when the iPhone 5 is to be released, it may very well be worth waiting — yet again.

Here is one such example.

The iPhone SJ is the vision of Antonio De Rosa from ADR Studio in Italy. Of course, this is not at all sanctioned or endorsed by the team in Cupertino, but it could give us a glimpse into what the next iPhone will bring. For starters, this is decidedly thinner than the iPhone 4S, seemingly putting this iDevice in the same slimness league as the new Motorola RAZR Android phone, for example.

The overall design, though, appears to be roughly similar to the iPhone 4S, only squished down. The physical home button, from what I can tell, is still there. The display has gone virtually edge-to-edge, though, and it’s a “totally glass capacitive screen on a polycarbonate lightweight body.” The copy accompanying the concept images also tell us there is a “new core” and a “new camera,” but doesn’t go into any further detail. I imagine the real iPhone 5 will have an Apple A6 (or similar) chip, whatever that means.

The Apple’s Magic Mouse doesn’t have anything on its surface. It’s an aluminum base topped off with a smooth multitouch panel. It felt weird to use, but leagues ahead of the Mighty Mouse. I may go back to mice. The strange thing about the Magic Mouse is not how it works. It is that you have different gestures than on a standard Macbook Pro trackpad. One obvious example: Since you move the cursor by moving the whole mouse with your hand, there’s no point in also using one finger to move the cursor, like on the trackpad. Moving your finger on the surface of the Magic Mouse allows you to scroll in all directions, 360 degrees around. You can also scroll with two or three fingers, if you move them up and down. But if you swipe them from side to side while using a web browser, your browsing history moves forward or back.

Physically, the mouse is beautiful, and feels nice. The top is made of white polycarbonate that matches the keys on Apple’s keyboards. It is one seamless touch surface, and, logically, there is no Mighty Mouse scroll nipple. The surface can also simulate the left and right buttons. Unlike in previous Apple’s mice, the two buttons work perfectly. This time they also added physical feedback, so when you click the buttons, you actually get the entire surface to click—like the original clear Apple mouse. The mouse runs on AA batteries, and Apple claims 4 months of use per set. You can get it with the new iMac or pay $69 separately. There was a small thing I noticed, though: the mouse would sometimes move when I tried to scroll — I can maybe get used to this, but it was a thing that happened to me and my presenter who definitely had more time with the mouse. The other reason why Apple went with fewer fingers for swipe and scroll gestures, besides the issue of pointing already being taken care of by the mouse’s table action, was because you need your ring finger to hold the mouse properly or the thing slides on your desk. Also, the mouse will be software configurable for lefties.

What it can’t do

As good as the swiping gestures are, they’re limited in what you can actually accomplish with them. You can’t use more than three fingers at a time, because you won’t have enough fingers left to hold the mouse. There’s also no option for touch-sensitive clicking, like in trackpads, something that would have been cool to have just as a bonus. You also can’t tell which side is up just from touch until you click down and feel nothing happen. So far the Magic Mouse is only compatible with the iMacsthat they ship with, but will get broad support soon. It also can’t manage to stay free from scratches, similar to white MacBooks that also get scratched very easily. But the blemishes don’t interfere with the mouse’s functionality—it’s just painful to watch any new product lose its pristine finish so quickly.

Why is 3D Better?

An introductory explanation of conventional (2D) TV and how 3D works is beneficial in understanding what 3D adds to your viewing experience. This is explained in the following sections. If you’re unsure if 3D is right for you try it out at your local TV retailer.

Conventional TV

Our natural real-world vision is stereoscopic, meaning that each of our two eyes sees everything from a slightly different position and angle. This allows us to perceive the world in three dimensions, horizontally, vertically, and with depth.

When we watch a conventional (two dimensional) video both eyes see the same picture. We see the objects shown in the video as flat due to the lack of a different perspective for each eye. After watching for a minute or two we “zone in” to the video, subconsciously forgetting about the TV and other objects around us. In this state our brain can make up for some of the loss of depth perception by using visual cues in the picture such as the size, angle, position and movement of objects and relate them to our real-world three dimensional vision experience but the missing critical stereoscopic component of vision cannot be overcome.

3D TV

A 3D television makes it possible to display different images to each eye. This provides the facility to display the same picture from two different perspectives, one for each eye, thereby restoring stereoscopic vision.

The most common technique used by 3D TV’s in the home is through the use of active-shutter glasses which block the vision of one eye by making the lens in the glasses opaque while the image for the other eye is displayed on the screen. The same is performed for the alternate eye and the process repeats, typically 60 times per second. This happens so quickly that we don’t notice that each eye is being blocked, similar to how we don’t really notice when we blink our eyes (which is much slower at around a third of a second).

Benefits of 3D

3D provides a more immersive experience when watching movies, sport and documentaries by providing true depth perception. 3D also enhances computer games, and in some games, particularly those involving driving or sports, 3D can give you an advantage by allowing you to better judge distances and therefore the timing of certain actions such as cornering or hitting a ball.

3D Setup

The Basics

To get set up for 3D you will need 3D equipment, such as a 3D capable television and glasses, and 3D content, like 3D capable games, movies or television channels. While most 3D televisions can convert standard 2D content to 3D automatically through the use of special image processing, the quality varies and it is only suited to certain content. It’s an interesting concept but it tends to cause eye-strain and is therefore more of a gimmick than something you would use regularly.

3D TV

The main setup cost is in purchasing a 3D capable TV and varies depending on the size, display technology (Plasma or LCD/LED), brand and model. Costs of 3D TV’s have continued to fall since their introduction and prices for the same model vary from store to store.

It is also possible to use a 3D projector but these are quite expensive for the typical home and room size and layout should be carefully considered.

Samsung 3D Glasses

Glasses

The cost for glasses can also be significant. They are generally specific to a TV manufacturer and not interchangeable, though some third-party glasses compatible with multiple TV’s are now appearing. Cost varies from one manufacturer to another and between models, with rechargeable glasses being more expensive than those requiring batteries and adult sized glasses being more expensive than glasses for children where available. Some TV’s include one or two pair of glasses in the box but others have none. Check with the retailer or manufacturer.

Tip: Bonus Bundles

Look for bonus bundles offered by manufacturers and retailers. These usually contain additional glasses, 3D movies, 3D games, or even 3D Blu-ray players, cameras, games consoles and a combination of several items, a huge saving if you are considering purchasing the items separately. Read the conditions for the bonus carefully before you buy as there are often requirements such as purchasing only from authorized resellers (which excludes many online-only stores) and some are offered only by redemption, requiring the submission of an application form, payment of postage and handling fees, and sometimes with lengthy delivery times.

Minimum Requirements

The indicative prices in the following setups are based on advertised prices for new equipment from discount retailers as at December 30, 2010. For the major 3D TV component a Samsung PN50C7000 (US) / PS50C7000 (Europe) 50″ plasma 1080p 3D TV is used at a cost of $1500. Prices for 1080p 3D TV’s vary between $1200 and $4500 depending on the display type, size, series and brand.

Watching Live 3D Television

3D capable TV with in-built HDTV tuner ($1500)

Active shutter glasses (free with TV or bonus bundle, additional pairs $80 – $200)

One or more 3D channels to watch

Total Cost: $1500

There are not many 3D channels at present but this is expected to increase in the near future. Availability varies from country to country and from one provider to another.

It is also possible to watch 3D television on a computer using a 3D HDTV receiver card and a 3D monitor or TV with active shutter glasses but this is more difficult to set up and suitable only for technical enthusiasts.

Watching 3D Movies

3D capable TV ($1500)

Active shutter glasses (free with TV or bonus bundle, additional pairs $80 – $200)

3D Blu-ray player (stand-alone $200, or a Sony PlayStation 3 $300)

High-speed HDMI cable ($20)

One or more 3D movies on Blu-ray ($15-$35)

Total Cost: $1720 to $1820 + movies

The quality of 3D movies varies. Look for movies that were made for 3D and check reviews before purchasing. Some regular 2D movies have been post-converted to 3D, similar to the automatic 2D to 3D conversion mentioned earlier but with additional manual adjustments. To do it well requires a lot of time and unfortunately some movies have been converted quickly just to get “3D” status. The quality of these 3D conversions varies greatly, with most in the poor to ok range, though there are a few exceptions.

Playing 3D Games

3D capable TV ($1500) or 3D capable monitor ($300)

Active shutter glasses (free with TV or bonus bundle, additional pairs $80 – $200)

PlayStation 3 ($300), Xbox 360 with HDMI ($300), or PC upgrade ($800)

High-speed HDMI cable for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, high speed HDMI cable or dual-link DVI cable for PC depending on the video card and monitor or TV ($20)

One or more stereoscopic 3D games ($10 to $110)

Total Cost: $1120 to $1820 + games

Depending on the gaming platform that you choose (PS3, Xbox 360 or PC) the number and quality of 3D games will vary. The PS3 and PC have native 3D support for full resolution 3D games but not all games use this format. 3D Xbox 360 games generally use a half-resolution side-by-side display format and require the TV to be manually changed to the appropriate 3D mode.

Recommended Setup

You will get the best all-round experience with the following setup, allowing you to watch 3D television and movies, play 3D games, and enjoy an immersive audio experience from the surround sound that comes with them.

3D capable TV with in-built HDTV tuner ($1500)

Active shutter glasses (free with TV or bonus bundle, additional pairs $80 – $200)

PlayStation 3 ($300)

High-speed HDMI cable ($20)

Surround sound system: receiver ($200 with 3D passthrough), speakers ($400 low-end 5.1 set), (total $600)

Total Cost: $2420 + movies and games

Notes

A 46 inch or greater TV size is recommended depending on your budget and how far you will be sitting from the TV. Both Plasma and LCD(LED back-lit or side-lit) are fine but picture quality varies between models. Popular brands are Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and LG. Several other manufacturers now also have 3D TV’s.

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) (with free firmware update 3.50 or later) makes an ideal media centre as it provides many 3D features in one device. It supports native HDMI 3D, has many current and upcoming 3D games, supports viewing of 3D MPO photos using the free Play Memories application, playing 3D video files with the in-built video player and is also a 3D Blu-ray player for 3D movies on Blu-ray disc.

A 5.1 surround sound system, comprising a receiver or amplifier and six speakers (center, front left, front right, side left, side right, subwoofer) is recommended. Many new receivers are now 7.1, adding rear left and right speakers. You don’t have to purchase all speakers at once as virtually all receivers allow you to configure which speakers are present. You can generally start with three speakers (center, front left, front right) and add more over time as your budget allows. While 7.1 (and indeed 6.1, 7.2 and 9.1) surround sound is better than 5.1 only a few movies and games support 7.1 natively and sound to the additional two speakers (if present) is simulated when playing 5.1 or 6.1 encoded audio. Unless you are a hi-fi enthusiast and have the budget and space for the additional speakers the improvement over 5.1 does not usually justify the additional cost.

Note that if you want to connect your 3D TV through the receiver, which is advisable if possible, you’ll need a receiver that supports 3D video, usually labeled as 3D or HDMI 1.4 or 1.4a compliant. The alternative, if you only have a HDMI 1.3 or earlier receiver, is to connect the TV directly to the video source device and the audio to the receiver via a separate connection. Some 3D Blu-ray players have dual HDMI connections for this purpose and games consoles such as the PlayStation 3 have a separate optical audio connection to provide this capability.

Last week we learned that the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab might not receive a software update to Android 4.0, but then the company decided to take a second look at the situation after customers cried out. Details are still scarce, but reports are coming from Korea that Samsung might choose to compromise and offer the estimated 20 million Galaxy S owners a “value pack” that would include new features from Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung’s value pack is said to include improvements to multitasking, faster browsing speeeds, new homescreen widgets, and upgrades to the camera software. Specific Android 4.0 features like Android Beam and Face Unlock are also said to be in the works.

The Galaxy S originally launched with Android 2.1 (Eclair) and Samsung provided two major updates to Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Since the Nexus S already received an update to Android 4.0, it appears the Galaxy S has the hardware to run the latest version, but storage limitations would not allow the full TouchWiz experience that customers are accustomed to.

It’s unfortunate that Samsung might not upgrade these millions of devices to the latest version of Android, but at least they are still offering to support them with continued software updates. Hackers will still be able to flash custom Android 4.0 ROMs if they choose and the average customer will soon be eligible for an upgrade, as the original Galaxy S will be 2 years old next summer.

Let us know if you are still holding onto a Samsung Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, or Fascinate. Are you satisfied with a possible “value pack” software upgrade?

Update: As pointed out by several readers, xda-developers has another translation of a Korean report that says the “value pack” might still be considered ICS-lite. We await official confirmation.

3D glasses form a vital component of current 3D Display technology enabling stereoscopic vision and depth perception. As explained in greater depth in the 3D TV technology guide, we are able to perceive depth due to the fact that each of our eyes observes the same scene but at a slightly different perspective. When the individual images being viewed by each eye reaches our visual cortex, our brain automatically puts these images together and interprets information regarding the third dimension. Try tossing a ball back and forth with a friend with one eye shut and you will realize just how important the second eye is for us to perceive depth.

Panasonic’s Active Shutter 3D Glasses

Thus, ultimately any 3D display technology will rely on using a method to deliver separate images (or views) of the same scene to each eye. 3D glasses provide a very simple and elegant approach to achieving this. The idea behind them is simple enough, each eye piece allows the image meant for the corresponding eye to pass through while blocking the image meant for the other eye.

3D Glasses can be divided into two primary technologies, Active and Passive. Active glasses are usually powered and involve moving or switchable elements in the glasses that “actively” discriminate the incoming image so as to provide a different image to each eye. In direct contrast, Passive glasses do not rely on any powered or movable elements. They usually rely on some special type of optical material that helps discriminate between the images meant for each eye.

Active Shutter 3D Glasses

Active shutter glasses are currently a very popular choice amongst consumer electronics giants who are investing in 3D display technology. The primary reason for this is that this technology requires a very minimal modification to current HDTV displays and as a result it is much easier to develop and perfect. The individual eye pieces of these glasses incorporate liquid crystals and a polarization filter so that when a voltage is applied, the glass turns dark and prevents light from transmitting through. Thus the left and right eye glass can be shuttered alternatively in this manner and this shuttering effect is synced with the refresh rate of the display. The 3D TV displays a frame for the left and right eye alternatively and the sync with the active shutter glass ensures that each eye only ever views the image it is meant to see. As is probably evident, because of the way these displays work, the effective refresh rate of the TV is halved. This is why 3D Ready TVs have to have a minimum refresh rate of 120 Hz (meaning 60 frames per second for each eye).

So how will Active Shutter Glasses affect your 3D experience? Well, it is actually a very simple and elegant solution to providing stereoscopic vision using existing display technology. The pros and cons of this technology is listed below and will probably help answer some of your questions.

Advantages of Active Shutter Glass Technology

Probably the cheapest 3D technology in the short term. This is because this technology only needs a refresh rate enhancement for current LCD and Plasma TVs, something that isn’t too hard or expensive to do. In addition a syncing unit will be required to sync the TV to the active shutter glasses

Lower price point does not come at the expense of 3D image quality.

Backward compatible with some of the high-end 3D capable TVs that were sold in 2008 and 2009

Displays are based on very mature LCD, DLP and Plasma technology which means that most of the quirks are already ironed out and prices shouldn’t be prohibitive.

Some drawbacks of Active Shutter glasses

The constant shuttering might bother some who are very sensitive to low refresh rates and cause flickering. This will be true of the lower end 120 Hz displays which only provide an effective refresh rate of 60 Hz. However, 3D display manufacturers have already announced many TV models with refresh rates of 240 Hz and even 480 Hz! These high refresh rates will easily get rid of any such complaint one might have of the 120 Hz displays

Glasses are battery powered. This is one major drawback that is not particularly easy to alleviate. Due to the nature of the technology the glasses need to apply a potential to “shutter” the glasses. It also needs additional power to communicate and sync with the TV. Running low on batteries while watching a movie will surely be a very annoying experience. So if you are planning to buy one, be prepared for this. It shouldn’t be hard to deal with though. It’s just like your PS3/XBOX360 wireless controllers to be honest. Just set them up at the charging dock when you aren’t watching 3D television, and that should make sure that they are charged and ready to go when you need them

While the 3D displays using this technology will be inexpensive themselves, the glasses will be more expensive than their passive counterparts due to their complexity. This means that it might be a bit prohibitive to own many active shutter glasses for when you have friends come over to watch a 3D movie. However, it is most likely that they will be well subsidized by the display manufacturers in an effort to encourage widespread 3D TV adoption.

That pretty much sums up the active shutter technology and its pros and cons. It is definitely the most mature 3D technology at the moment when it comes to personal 3D capable home theater systems for the home user and promises a fantastic 3D experience.

Passive Polarized 3D Glasses

The simplest passive 3D glasses that most of us are all familiar with are color anaglyph glasses…those cheap red-green or red-cyan glasses that you have used at some point or the other. These glasses do not have any “active” or powered components on the glasses. Instead, they rely some optical effect to discriminate between two images projected on a screen, each meant for a different eye. In the case of anaglyph glasses, the images for the left and right eye were projected using two projectors on the same screen and due to the color tints on each eye piece, a separate image was delivered to each eye. However, this technology has severe limitations, chief amongst them being the poor color fidelity due to the use of tinted glasses. The muted colors lead to a very surreal, uncomfortable and visually jarring 3D experience which prevents the viewer from being immersed in the 3D environment.

More recently, there has been resurgence in Passive 3D Glasses technology due to technological progress that has enabled Digital projectors such as those used by RealD and IMAX 3D to display commercial movies at movie theaters in true 3D. These systems rely on exploiting a property of light called polarization. If you are interested in the details of this technology check out my article explaining how 3D TV technology works. To explain it very generally, this technology relies on discriminating between two images projected on the same screen by 2 separate projectors based on the polarization of the light used to project the image. As shown in the figure below, when light of one polarization encounters an eye-piece that is polarized in the opposite direction, it cannot pass through. On the other hand, if both the lens and the light have the same polarization, then the light passes through the lens unimpeded. Thus, each eye piece has the opposite polarization and the image projected on the screen consists of two images, each possessing a different polarization and perspective, meant for one eye. In this manner, a separate image is delivered to each eye.

In commercial 3D projectors used in theaters, the projector technology relies on Circularly polarized light which works in a similar manner but also allows the viewer to tilt his or her head without degrading the image quality. These projectors also save on costs since they can alternatively generate right circularly polarized and left circularly polarized images in rapid succession without the need for two independent projectors.

We have listed the advantages and some of the disadvantages of this technology below

Advantages of Passive Polarized 3D Glasses

Provides excellent rejection between the left and right eye views thus getting rid of any ghosting issues in the 3D videos

Guaranteed flicker free 3D experience

Provides amazing visuals and very rich colors

Passive 3d Glasses are extremely cheap. You can easily stock up on them if you are planning to have a big Super Bowl party where you want to show off your fancy 3D TV. Additionally, there is a good chance that the glasses you kept from when you went to the theater will actually work for your passive polarized 3D display

Some disadvantages to keep in mind

This technology is currently limited to front-projection systems. This means that it is easier to use in projectors but hard to implement in regular flat screen 3D Tvs. This is primarily because it is very hard for the light to retain it’s polarization property when it interacts with a screen. For front-projection systems, a special silver screen is used to reflect the light while maintaining the polarization of the projected images.

This projection technology is currently very expensive and will appeal only to the hardcore 3D addicts out there. Silver screens aren’t cheap either!

This technology is not compatible with current mature display technologies such as LCD, Plasma and DLP. This means that any new technology that is developed will still be in “Beta” mode and will probably take a couple of years before the kinks are ironed out.

The Verdict

So which type of 3D display technology should you go with? As things stand at the moment, we would very strongly recommend Active Shutter based 3D TVs. As listed above, this is based on very mature and robust display technologies and will also be very competitive when it comes to pricing. While passive polarized glasses are attractive in their passive nature, this display technology will still take a few years to mature before it will truly challenge active shutter based systems. Of course, chances are that in the next few years someone will develop a 3D TV that doesn’t require glasses… Well, at least we can hope that they do .

I am Abdul and I have always been interested inDIY (Do-it-yourself) projects. Recently I tried making a solar panel at home and found that it is relatively easy than most of us think. Although commercial solar panel installation is expensive, but I used some common tools and inexpensive materials to make a solar panel, which is equivalent to commercial panels in performance but it cost me less than $200.

You can also make a solar panel at home and besides slashing your electricity bills, you can also help saving our lovely planet by using solar energy for your household requirements.

I have seen many people asking if it is possible to build a solar panel at home without any specific technical skill. Here I will show you a simple step to step method of making a solar panel. If you really want to learn how to make a solar panel at home, read this page carefully.

You will get to know about Basics of Solar Panel, Advantages of using Solar panels, Types of Solar Panels, Myths about Solar Energy Panels and many more.

Why This Page?

Recently I wrote an article about How to make a solar panel from scratch and it got hundreds of views in short span. I got many emails from readers who wanted to know about more information about making solar panel at home. This prompt me to write about this topic in detail here.

Why Solar Panels?

Benefits of Using Solar Panels

Well, I made my first solar panel because I like to build things and I have always been interested in such projects. But today Solar Panels are popular due to their low maintenance cost, high efficiency and because they save our huge electricity bills. Building a solar panel is economical and total cost of making and installing a solar panel at home is nominal. I have listed some major advantages of solar panels in detail here which help you to understand why you must switch to solar energy?

What are Solar Panels?

A Solar panel is a basically a box that holds a group of solar cells. These Solar cells (photovoltaic cells) convert solar energy in to electricity. To generate a considerable amount of power you need many solar cells, so these cells are combined and assembled on a panel. These solar panels holds many solar cells thus preventing them from beign damaged. Together these solar cells generate enough electricity as per your need.

It is simple. Isn’t it?

Types of Home Made Solar Panels

Basically Solar Panels are of two types:

Solar Thermal Panels:

These panels use solar energy to generate heat which can be used for some basic purposes such as to boil water etc. These are simplest type of solar panels.

Solar Photovoltaic Panels:

These panels are made up of a series of Photovoltaic cells that can convert solar power in to electricity. There is an electricity storage device installed that store the electricity and supply this electricity for our household requirements. You can use as many solar cells (photovoltaic cells) as you need according to your electricity requirement.

Making Your Own Solar Panel at Home

Do-It-Yourself

Now you know basics of Solar panels, it’s time to make one yourself. Let’s start with learning about basic tools and parts you will need to make a basic solar panel.

Tools needed for making a solar panel at home

Here is the list of some of the important tools and things you will need while making a solar panel.

Plywood:

Plywood is the main part by which we will make the actual box to install the solar cells. Choose plywood of a good quality as it will be a onetime investment. Thickness of plywood must be around 15mm. A solar panel installation works well for many years without any costly maintenance.

Saw for Cutting:

You will need a saw for cutting. Electric saw is better than hand saw.

Plexiglass Sheet:

Plexiglass sheet protects solar panel from weather. Normal glass is not used for this purpose as these are fragile and may get shattered by debris or stones.

Soldering Gun and Wire:

Soldering gun and wire are needed for connecting solar cells. Soldering wires are made up of tin wire and have high melting point.

Rosin Flux Pen:

Flux pen is used to support the tabbing wire to stick to solar cells.

Silicone Sealant:

It is used to make the solar panel water tight by filling the gap between the flexi glass and the wooden frame.

UV Plywood Protector Varnish:

Plywood must be given coating of UV protector to protect it from moisture and weather. This will give your solar panel a long life.

Volt Meter:

By using Volt Meter you can test the output of each solar cell. Higher the numbers of solar cells, more volt power will it generate.

Solar Cells:

These are the most important part of this project. Solar cells will cost you around $2 per cell. Number of solar cells you need can be determined according to your need.

In addition to this you will also need Paint brush, wire cutters, screw driver etc.

How many Solar Cells you will need to make a solar panel at home:

Knowing how many solar cells you will need to make your solar panel depends on the power you need from it. Here is a simple method to calculate this all.

1. You must understand that all solar cells of same type produces same amount of voltage. A typical solar cell of 3 X 6 inches in dimensions will give around .5 volts of power. It’s the amount of current that increase or decrease with size. A 3 X 6 inches solar cell gives you 3 Amp of current. Divide that in two parts and current will decrease with 1.5 Amp in each half, but voltage will always remain same.

2. A simple physical formula to measure Watt is: WATT = Voltage X Current. So the total power your solar panel will produce would be more if you use bigger cells (more current), but your panel will become heavy and large. Size of 3 X 6 inches is best in my opinion.

3. Now you can calculate the number of solar cells. If you need say 60 Watt power and one solar cell gives you around .5V x 3Amp = 1.5 Watt, then for 60 watt you will need, 60/1.5 = 40 solar cells.

Actual Steps of Making a Solar Panel:

Step 1. As you may have calculated the number of solar cells by now, you must know how large frame you will need to fit them. You can make more than one panel if your power requirements are higher and you need large number of solar cells. Cut the plywood sheet in rectangular shape. Any other shape is also fine but rectangular are more common.

Step 2. Apply UV plywood protector varnish on plywood. It saves the installation from adverse weather conditions and other harm.

Step 3. Apply flux to the bus strips of solar cells by using Rosin flux pen. This ensures that while soldering tab ribbons to solar cells, they will stick completely and tightly.

Step 4. Connect all solar cells to one another and after that place them on panel of plywood carefully. Drill two holes to feed the wires that will left unattached. Now carefully seal the gaps of holes with silicon caulk.

Step 5. Now make a frame for solar panel as it must be covered by Plexiglas to secure solar cells from water and weather. Make two holes in Plexiglas for screws. Plexiglas must be fitted tightly to the frame. Use silicon caulk and screws for this.

Step 6. Now double check the whole panel for any kind of gap left. If you find any gap then fill it with Silicon caulk. Drill a small hole at the bottom of panel to keep moisture from building.

Your solar panel is complete now. You can then check the Voltage output and current capacity of your homemade solar panel in sunlight.

iPhone Dev Team released few version of their famous RedSn0w to JailBreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3S, iPad & iPod Touch on Firmware iOS 5.0. Here is the guide. That Jailbreak was Tethered, Now we have a working solution to make your tethered device work without connecting to PC/Mac and boot using RedSn0w. Check the easy solution below.

We have posted the Tethered jailbreak solution for iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch on iOS 5.0 guide here. As you already know, in tethered jailbreak when you reboot your device, it will no longer boot. You will be either stuck at apple logo forever, or you will get to itunes restore screen. When this happens, you have to connect it to your computer and use redsn0w “just boot” feature which will help you rebooted successfully. It’s not that bad, as its only Jailbreaking solution for iOS 5.0. But if your device crashes and reboots while you’re out on the road, you are screwed and without a phone until you get home, and use RedSn0w again.

An untethered jailbreak is one that does not have such problems. Here you can reboot and the device successfully. Because we are using the limera1n exploit discovered from Geohot last year, we are always guaranteed a tethered jailbreak on last generation devices. A new exploit will need to be found to un-tether us.

Here BigBoss came us with a new solution. Semi-Tethered JailBreak. The semi-tethered jailbreak will allow you to reboot on the road, but with limited functionality. It is enough that you are no longer stranded, and you can use your phone, text, and many other features. This is just until you get home and can use redsn0w again to “just boot tethered”. Once you do that, you’re back to fully functional state.

Features Of Semi-Tethered JailBreak

1) Can use phone, sms (text messages)
2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.
3) Cannot use mobile safari
4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

How to Get Semi-Tethered JailBreak

1. JailBreak Your iOS device using this guide.

2. After successful Jailbreak, open Cydia

3. Add http://thebigboss.org/semitether as repository on Cydia.( Manage -> Source -> Edit -> Add)

4. After adding source click on it, you will see SemiTether package. Install it.

5. Done you are now Semi-Tethered.

Now if you power down your iPhone it will start in Semi-Tethered mode. You will be able to use most native apps, but not apps like Safari, mail, and no Cydia apps. You could just boot tethered in RedSn0w and get your normal status back when you get back home.

Please perform this while you are home, as if any thing goes wrong you have use RedSn0w, and after this install it will reboot.
